The story behind BraScout
It started with someone I love
For more than fifteen years, my wife dealt with back aches, shoulder pain, and bras that never quite worked. She's a scientist — brilliant, busy, and with zero patience for decoding why a 34D from one brand fit nothing like a 34D from another.
So the bra shopping became my job.
I was the guy wandering lingerie sections, reading tags, comparing wires and bands while shop assistants wondered what I was doing there. And when the stores didn't have answers, I went looking for them: sizing research, fit communities, garment construction, the actual biomechanics of how a bra supports weight.
What I found was worse than I expected. The pain wasn't a mystery — it was a band problem, a shape problem, and a sizing-standard problem, stacked on top of each other. Her bras weren't failing randomly. They were failing predictably, for reasons nobody at the point of sale ever explained.
Once I understood the mechanics, the pain was fixable. That's the part that stuck with me: this wasn't rare bad luck. It was a solvable problem that millions of people are living with because the right information is scattered, jargon-heavy, or buried inside one brand's sales funnel.
Why the size on the label kept lying
There was a second layer to the problem, and it came from how we live.
Our family has moved across the world for work — India, the US, Switzerland, France, with long stretches back and forth. Every move, the same size stopped meaning the same thing. A US DDD, a UK E, and an EU F can be the same cup — but nothing on the label tells you that. Above a D cup, the regional systems genuinely diverge, and most calculators don't even acknowledge it.
If you've ever moved countries, shopped a foreign brand online, or wondered why your size "changed" when nothing about you did — that's not you. That's the industry. BraScout's conversion engine, covering US, UK, EU, FR, IT, AU, JP and IN standards, exists because we lived that confusion firsthand.
What I learned, and what BraScout is built on
Years of reading, comparing, and testing distilled into a few principles that now run through every recommendation on this site:
The band does the work, not the straps. Around 80% of a bra's support comes from the band. Most pain — digging straps, riding bands, aching shoulders — traces back to a band that's too loose. Fix the anchor, and most problems disappear.
Size and shape are different questions. Two people can measure exactly the same and need completely different bras, because breast shape — root width, projection, where the fullness sits — decides which styles work. A calculator that stops at a number has answered half the question.
Sister sizes unlock options. Same cup volume, different band. It's the single most useful trick in fitting, and most people have never heard of it. Every BraScout result includes them.
No tool replaces trying a bra on. We're honest about limits: tape measurements get less precise at larger cup sizes, and post-surgery or specialty fitting belongs with a professional fitter. BraScout gets you to the right starting point faster — it doesn't pretend to be the finish line.

Why we don't play favorites
BraScout is free, requires no signup, and doesn't sell bras.
We earn through affiliate commissions when you buy through our links — at no extra cost to you. Here's the part that matters: the recommendations are identical whether a brand pays us or not. The sizing math, the shape matching, the brand fit guidance — none of it knows or cares about commercial relationships. Fit decides. Always.
Most "free" fit tools online exist to move one brand's inventory. Their calculator can only ever conclude that you need their bra. BraScout covers 100+ brands across 39 stores precisely so the answer can be whatever actually fits you — including brands we earn nothing from.
Who's behind this
BraScout is built and run by Atelier Apps, an independent studio registered in France. No investors, no lingerie-industry ownership, no data harvesting. Your raw measurements never leave your browser — the only thing our ranking endpoint receives is your calculated size, with no name, no email, and no identifiers attached, and we don't retain it. The full details are in our Privacy Policy.
I'm not a doctor or a professional fitter, and I don't claim to be. I'm someone who spent years solving this problem for one person, validated what I learned against real clinical and industry sources, and built the tool I wish had existed at the start. Where the science matters — fit mechanics, health-adjacent topics — we cite real authorities, not marketing blogs.
Made in France. Built for everyone.
